Stronger Core, Better Posture

Melanie Breaden Physiotherapy in Port Stephens provides Pilates Reformer treatments, which involves the use of a bed-like frame with a flat platform that rolls back and forth. Combining principles of centering, concentration, breath, flow and precision, Pilates can help to improve posture, increase flexibility and improve your mental health. Depending on your needs, our team can recommend whether Pilates or yoga is better suited.

These exercises are often high intensity and low impact, making them perfect for increasing your strength without the risk of injury. When you want a full body workout in a controlled environment, Pilates is the perfect practice. Get started by calling Melanie Breaden Physiotherapy today. For a stronger core, better posture and a high-intensity workout, this is the place to begin.

Pilates Reformer

Book a class with Benita to learn how to use the Pilates Reformer machine. We provide 1-on-1 classes with clients, creating individual programs that are tailored to your needs. As we only have one reformer in the clinic, classes must be booked in advance. Once you learn how to use the machine, it can be used independently.

Depending on your physical ability, Benita will create a tailored program designed to suit your body. If you’ve never done Pilates before, the exercise is a combination of calisthenics, yoga and ballet, with the focus being on exercise, breathing and meditation. Whilst yoga is more focused on balance and flexibility, Pilates is strength based, with an aim of stretching and lengthening all major muscle groups in your body. Through low repetitions and tailored exercises, Pilates is suitable for anyone, from elite athletes to people with low fitness levels.

The Benefits of Pilates

Pilates has been around for almost 100 years and is a high-intensity practice, with a low risk of injury. Combining elements of breath, flow, precision, control and concentration, Pilates will gradually increase your core strength, improve your posture and help you more easily engage in the practice of mindfulness.

By improving your mind-body awareness, Pilates promotes better practices in your day-to-day life – giving you control over breathing, movement and posture. Once you are familiar with the practice, you are more than welcome to visit our clinic and practice independently using our reformer. Located in Lemon Tree Passage, our stunning waterside clinic offers a beautiful setting that can calm you both physically and mentally. Open from Monday to Friday, we are also open late till 7pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays so you can visit us after work.
